Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been awarded the Vaccine Hero Award in recognition of Bangladesh’s outstanding achievement in the immunization program. The Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI), an internationally renowned global alliance, awards the Prime Minister the award. Sheikh Hasina, who is based in New York, said at a ceremony held at the United Nations headquarters on Monday. Ngozi Akonjo received the prestigious award from Ibila. The Prime Minister accepted the award and dedicated it to the countrymen.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh’s hard work for vaccination is recognized worldwide today. He urged the countrymen to continue the immunization program, adding that a healthy and new generation is needed to build a better and prosperous Bangladesh.Sheikh Hasina said the government is committed to immunization under universal health care with the help of the international community. He hoped that the vaccine target would be possible for everyone in Bangladesh long before the 21st. Describing immunization as the biggest success story of Bangladesh in the health sector, the Prime Minister thanked the Global Vaccine Alliance and other stakeholders for their continued support and contribution.Sheikh Hasina described the various steps taken by the government to integrate immunization with other primary health services at all levels.Referring to the forced expatriate Rohingya from Myanmar at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, the head of the government said that about 1 lakh Rohingya from Rakhine posed a huge risk to Bangladesh’s health sector.
The Prime Minister said that 2 steps have been taken to increase Rohingya’s immunity through routine vaccination and immunization. Sheikh Hasina also mentioned that the vaccine was successfully administered to prevent the spread of diphtheria, cholera and such diseases in the Rohingya camps very quickly.The Prime Minister stressed that her government is always committed to ensuring people health and nutrition. In this regard, he vowed to take the country forward by implementing the vision 2021 and 20, saying that his government would be able to ensure basic health and adequate nutrition for all.
